Visita Iglesia: 7 Beautiful Churches to visit around Cebu City

4:06 AM

It has always been a lenten tradition for pious Roman Catholics in the Philippines to visit seven churches (or sometimes up to fourteen) popularly known as Visita Iglesia every Maundy Thursday where they pray before the blessed sacrament.

According to history, this tradition of visiting seven churches on a Maundy Thursday was started by Saint Philip Neri around 1553. Together with some friends, they visited seven churches as penance.

Today, I and my friends decided to do our share of penance as observance of this lenten tradition which we religiously do every Maundy Thursday. Since they worked night shift prior this morning, I sorted out 7 churches which are accessible for us and I'm sure for some people on the go as well. So here's the list in chronological order:

1.) St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish

Location: Edison Cor Pasteur Sts., Lahug Cebu City

2.) Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal

Location: Gorordo Avenue, Lahug Cebu City

3.) Our Mother Of Perpetual Help Church Redemptorists, Cebu

Location: Queens Road, Cebu City

4. The Archdiocesan Shrine of the Most Sacred Heart Of Jesus

Location: Dionisio Jakosalem Street, Cogon Ramos, Cebu City

5.  Basilica Minore Del Sto. Niño

Location: Osmeña Blvd, Cebu City

6. Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral

Location: F. Urdaneta Street, Cebu City

7. Carmelites Monastery

Location: Juan Luna Avenue, Cebu City

And yes, we called it a day! How about you? What churches did you visit today? Comment on the box below for any suggestions and/or recommendations. Have a blessed Lenten season y'all!
